So this morning I woke up, and after I was done reading all the Golden Globes coverage (which mostly amounted to, "And it was RAINING. On CELEBRITIES. Their hair was SLIGHTLY MUSSED, and their designer dresses were VAGUELY DAMP! Quelle horreur!"), I moseyed on over to Publisher's Weekly to read this weeks children's books reviews.
And guess what was there.
Yes! A review of HEX HALL! And a POSITIVE review at that! One that called my book, "proficient!" and "entertaining!" Okay, so those exclamation points may be mine, but those other words are theirs, promise. And they said my characters were well-drawn, and that the book was funny, and...you know what, you could just go read it yourselves.
Also, the book was reviewed RIGHT BESIDE Josh Berk's THE DARK DAYS OF HAMBURGER HALPIN! This was exciting since Berk is my NEMESIS/friend, so it was very cool to see our books there together, all basking in sweet PW Love. (You can read the 1st 2 chapters of Josh's book on Amazon. You should go do that, because it is AWESOME, and funny, and great. Seriously, this time next year, that book is going to be covered in shiny awards stickers.)
Anyway, this was all very exciting since it's the first "professional" review I've gotten! It was equally exciting that it came today of all days, since it was on MLK Day 2007 that I sat down in my (blessedly empty and quiet) house and wrote the 1st ten pages of HEX HALL. I love when the Universe is all wacky like that...
